Dental fillings are required when tooth decay is present to help prevent any further decay and damage to the tooth.

The filling process involves: cleaning the decay, drying the area and sealing it with a filling material. Fillings can be done with either silver amalgam or tooth coloured white composite resin. Silver amalgam fillings are now considered old-fashioned, due to the inclusion of mercury and their dark unnatural colour. In contrast, white fillings are a tooth-coloured plastic and glass mixture which blends into the tooth to give a natural look.

At Dentessence, our dentists only use white fillings to treat tooth decay. White fillings can also be used for cosmetic improvements of the smile through bonding.
